THE KEY TO BEING CONSISTENT IS...

Not too many people know that I have been blogging for 15 years now (started in 2005).
Not too many people know that I have been creating YouTube videos since 2016.
Not too many people know that I have been sharing content on LinkedIn since 2013.

Most people thing that all of the content I have created has come up in the last year. And you are not wrong in thinking this way, because most likely you discovered me during this period.

What worked for me?
Something that works for everyone - consistency.
Showing up everyday.
No matter how hard it is, how you are feeling, what the response is - if you show up consistently everyday, you are already ahead of 99% people who quit somewhere during the journey.

BUT
We all know this already.
Nothing new.
The question, then, is - what drives consistency?
How is it that some people are so good at being consistent while most of us struggle?

The answer is - authenticity.
Are you yourself, when you are doing what you are doing?

Imagine this scenario.
You are this super fun, cheerful, jovial girl. Loves to connect with people, laughs out loud, always ready with a smile, filled with energy.
And then you start a job.
In a "strict" company.
Where no one smiles, no one laughs, energy is missing, interactions are rare and cheerfulness is simply a long word!

What are the odds that you will find it easy to consistent with your work?
The answer is obvious.
YOU WILL STRUGGLE.

Because this task/ activity/ situation/ context forces you to become someone else.
It asks you to change from your natural state to an unnatural state.
And that change requires effort. It requires energy. It requires force.
So we might do it for some time.
But a slight excuse, and we fall back to our natural state.
We will struggle to be consistent!

As Naval Ravikant famously said, if you do things in like that seem like play to you but work to others, you will win in that sphere!
Basically he is hinting towards the same idea.
If you are doing something that is truly you, you will never find the "need" to be consistent.
You will be consistent by design.
By nature.

So the next time you are struggling with consistency, ask yourself if it has anything to do with you not being yourself?
Not doing something that you truly wish to do?
Something, that is you!

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

I read a mesmerizing book this week
In Order To Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom
It is one of the most stunning books I have read in the recent past, about Yeonmi's escape from her life and world in North Korea.
The book humbled me, gripped me and made me so grateful for what we have in our lives and how we take so many things for granted!

Must read!

Also, quickly grabbed Havells: The Untold Story of Qimat Rai Gupta - a short read and a very simple take on the journey of creating the brand Havells.
Read it if you like autobiographies and want to know the ambitious story of how Qimat Rai Gupta created a fascinating company backed by strong product and effective branding.

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked all of you:
How would you describe yourself?
1. Happy with where I am in life
2. Confused with where I am in life
3. Unhappy with where I am in life
4. Resentful with where I am in life (full of regret)
5. Embarrassed with where I am in life

3,400+ people responded to the poll and here are the results.

51% are confused :))
30% are happy with where they are in life
11% are unhappy
5% are resentful
3% are embarrassed

In addition, so many of you wrote in directly, sharing the reason behind their choice. A lot of them evidently spoke about their confusion, lack of clarity and inability to decide the future.

To all those who are confused - welcome to the party! :)
We all are.
As long as you are not resentful or unhappy - you are on a journey. Which will take you someplace.
Do not fight the confusion.
Embrace it.
When nothing is certain, anything is possible.

PS: I am happy where I am in life. Very happy. And I pray the same for all of you :)

There are 3 kinds of vacations 1) Where you do things in excess that you have done back at home as well. Party, sleep, chill, dance, eat. I call them escapes. Not vacations. They are escapes from your current life. Most vacations lie in this category. 2) Where you do things that you could have ONLY done where you have gone. Sightseeing, top restaurants, top experiences. These vacations are memories. They are not a blur. They are a moment. Something you will remember and cherish for a while....
