HOW DO YOU DEFINE GROWTH?
Nishtha is our content manager, who manages all the content production for the brand - across all platforms. She has been in the team since the beginning (March 2020) and is the most critical member of the team.
We were having our 1:1 early this week and she said something which was quite deep.

But before I share that, let me tell you a little bit about my team and my leadership style.
I love pampering my team.
I want to make them experience growth - financially, professionally, in a manner they have never seen before.
For example:
1. Everyone's role is clear in the team.
2. They are provided with all the tools they need to be good at their work.
3. They are given regular feedback, through Nishtha and me (both of us have monthly 1:1 with everyone).
4. Financially they are rewarded with fixed salaries/stipends and a bonus payout (check out this video on how my Interns made 8L last year).
5. We go for an offsite every quarter, to really nice places (last 2 have been to Pondicherry, Dharamshala - next one starting today is Udaipur).
6. They get a lot of additional perks over and above this:

The leadership style that has worked for me, has been about 3 things:

1. Spend an inordinate amount of time finding the right people for your team.
2. Start with trust. Trust them completely.
3. Do everything you can to remove obstacles along their way.

Unfortunately, this doesn't always work.

When Nishtha and I spoke this week, she remarked:
'Our quality of problems are not improving.'
And that is such a powerful way of looking at things.

Growth in life does not mean no problems.
It means that the quality of your problems have improved!

And I often wonder, why is it that despite all tools, all facilities and all the right incentives, people slacken off.
Is it because that's who they truly are?
Is it because that is the basic instinct of humans - to seek comfort and do as less as possible?

I would love to know what you think.
As I try to find the answers at my end, in Udaipur, at our offsite :))

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

Finished reading The Z Factor
It is a pretty impressive journey and I quote admire the honesty with which Subhash Chandra (founder of ZEE Entertainment) has written the book.

Started reading Solve For Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy
This book is by Mo Gawdat, who was a former Google executive, and came up (as a geek) a formula for happiness!
In a tragic incident, he lost his son. As he attempted to recover from this horrific loss, he decided to test his formula and if it worked even in such harsh circumstances. And it did.
This book is the journey.
Quite fascinating. And moving!

My next book GET EPIC SHIT DONE has been typeset (which means it has been designed to look like a book now. And here is the dedication page :)

My book DO EPIC SHIT is now available in Hindi, Marathi and Tamil.
Of course, also in
English :)
190,000+ copies sold.
3 more languages coming up! (Including Portuguese)

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked you:

Where do you follow my content the most?

  1. YouTube
  2. Instagram
  3. LinkedIn
  4. Newsletter
  5. Podcast
  6. Other platforms

Here are the responses:

Observations:

  • YT is the dominant platform, followed by Newsletter (which is a sampling bias, because I am asking the newsletter audience), followed by Insta and LinkedIn
  • As people get older, LinkedIn increases in share, same for Instagram as well
  • Not many on Twitter (too niche) or the podcast (again too niche)

My response?
I love Instagram the most, because that is where I interact with all of you the most - through my Friday live sessions and my AMA sessions every week :)

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Met up with Sandeep sir for his show. Amazing energy, brilliant interaction with him and the crowd, and a lot of knowledge sharing.
Excited to see how the video turns out.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

If you could select ONLY ONE of these perks, as something your company gave you for free, which one would you select?

  1. 4 Therapy sessions per month
  2. High speed internet, every month
  3. Any online course of your choice (once a year)
  4. Health Insurance for you and your family
  5. Premium membership to YouTube and Spotify
  6. Any online/offline fitness membership per month

There are 3 kinds of vacations 1) Where you do things in excess that you have done back at home as well. Party, sleep, chill, dance, eat. I call them escapes. Not vacations. They are escapes from your current life. Most vacations lie in this category. 2) Where you do things that you could have ONLY done where you have gone. Sightseeing, top restaurants, top experiences. These vacations are memories. They are not a blur. They are a moment. Something you will remember and cherish for a while....
