WHY DO WE LACK MOTIVATION?

My latest podcast episode speaks about motivation and delves into why we seem to always lack it!

Give it a listen on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Gaana, JioSaavn.

WHO WOULD YOU DISSAPOINT THE MOST?

If you have seen the movie 3 Idiots, you would remember the scene where Farhan speaks to his dad, trying to convince him to follow his dream. Each time I watch this scene, I have tears in my eyes.
Watch it again, if you have forgotten.

Besides the heart-warming emotional conversation, is an important lesson that I took away from this.
There is always this person, that special person in our life, who we feel we will disappoint the most if we "fail" in life.
For most of us, it is our parents. As we grow up, it could be our closest friend, our spouse, perhaps even our kids at a certain age.

And we live our life, in fear of letting them down.
"They have done so much for me. I cannot be a failure in their eyes."

But we rarely have a conversation with them.

A conversation, not to convince them of what we want to do. Instead, to seek permission.
Seek permission to fail.

Because when the one person we are closest to, tells us that they will continue to love us, irrespective, we find the courage to face everything!

EVERYTHING!

Who would you disappoint the most if you "failed"?
Speak to them today.
And tell them "I want to know that you will continue to love and respect me, even if I am in the worst position possible."
They will never say no!

QUOTES I WISH TO SHARE

You can't have simple solutions to end tough relationships.

Calmness is not lack of emotions. It is an understanding of emotions.

When we say "I don't know what I should do", very often we mean "I don't know if what I want to do will work!"

Apologize for your actions. But not for who you are.

You know who are devastated by the crypto crash? Those who invested driven by FOMO.

RESPONSE TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked you all -

If you put 1,00,000 rupees in a fixed deposit, which gives you 5% returns, how much money will you have at the end of 10 years?

  1. Approximately 1,60,000
  2. Approximately 91,000
  3. Approximately 84,000
  4. I don't like math
  5. I don't like investing

The answers were surprisingly, devastating :(

64% of you gave the accurate answer - 1,60,000 (which is 5% interest rate, compounded over 10 years!)
15% of you gave the true answer - 91,000 (which is the same 1,60,000 adjusted for inflation - the value of your money decreases over time because of inflation)
10% of you gave the correct answer - 84,000 (which is what will be the value of your money, after paying taxes!)

Inflation is REAL.

Taxes are REAL.

DO NOT put your money in FDs just because they offer a fixed rate of return.
For every investment you make, ask yourself, what is the post-Tax, Inflation-adjusted rate of return?

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION

Would you much rather spend more money on your bed mattress or your work/study chair? And why?

  1. Bed mattress
  2. Chair
  3. Neither are important to me

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...

5 things I believed to be true when I was a kid; only to realize they are not! Money is finite. If one becomes rich, someone else becomes poor. I was convinced that there was only a limited amount of money in the world. And that the rich make money by taking it from someone else. Wealth is only distributed. Today, I know wealth can be created. By adding value. I shared an example of Maggi in my book, Make Epic Money. A pack of Maggi costs 10/20 rupees. But open it, cook it, add some veggies...
