ANYWAY!

You will be misunderstood because of your irrational optimism.
Be optimistic anyway.

Other’s success will generate massive self doubt every morning you get up.
Get up anyway.

You will be mocked for taking the unconventional path, for going against society.
Follow your path anyway.

The world might not value the experiences you share.
Share anyway.

You will struggle to smile and show up.
Show up anyway.

You will find most comfort in your own company but they will tell you to come hang out with us and don't be boring.
Be with yourself anyway.

Your ego will tell you that you don’t need help.
Seek help anyway.

Your kindness might cause you pain, cause you betrayal, cause you heartburn.
Be kind anyway.

The world will impose its expectations on you. Tell you what your success is. What your failure is.
Define it for yourself anyway.

Asking for something will scare you. Imagining the rejection will paralyze you. "what a stupid question" will intimidate you.
Ask anyway.

In the end - everyone out there seems to have an opinion on you.
What you should do.
What you shouldn't.
How you should live your life.
And how you have failed already.

The world doesn't require another template. It requires another rebel.
Be you, anyway!

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

Finished BUILD: An Unorthodox Guide to Making Things Worth Making
Pretty impressive book for builders. Tony, the author, has made the iPod, the iPhone and Nest and knows a lot about building. Through his struggles and experiences, I visualized someone who knows how to fight against all odds and centers oneself on the sole purpose of building things to help others. Wonderful :)

Started reading American Kingpin: Catching the Billion-Dollar Baron of the Dark Web
INCREDIBLE BOOK!
I am surprised this isn't a movie yet.
The book is about the Silk Road, which was an infamous ecommerce website that started in 2011, as a marketplace for illegal items, using Bitcoin and Tor.
And how its founder Ross Ulbricht was eventually tracked down and sentenced to prison.

It is gripping to say the least, and the author Nick Bilton has done such a masterful job.

Read this if you like thrillers, but also real life :)

And if you are looking for a book to rekindle your habit of reading, or get started on it, I recommend DO EPIC SHIT written by some random dude who isn't important.
The book is!
You can buy an original copy of DO EPIC SHIT here.

QUOTES TO SHARE

When you feel like giving up, it is not your capability that’s in question.
It’s your view of the future.

If you offer help without permission, do not expect gratitude.

It is ridiculous how many smart people do not share their experiences with the world, because they think it’s too obvious!

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked you:

If you follow someone online quite actively, which of these would you want to know about them?
This is in addition to what they already share. Assume they can only share one of these 4 things below.

  1. Their songs playlist
  2. Their reading list
  3. A vlog about their life
  4. Pictures from their life

Here are the responses:

  • Vlogs are a thing for the youngsters, and then fade away. I am surprised it is still ~30% for those in their 30s and beyond. I would have expected it to be much lower.
  • Reading list increases with age, which is not surprising. Also I think this newsletter audience is more reading inclined. Normal world will not have that high a preference.
  • Surprised with the lower share of pictures. Is it because of Instagram's abundance?
  • Also surprised by the relatively lower share of songs playlist. I always felt that music binds people. It is not funny how many people ask for my Spotify playlist (which I do not have btw!)

My response:
Reading list, any day. Most of the books I pick up are from people I follow. The current book I am reading was a recommendation by Sahil Bloom on one of his podcasts. Follow him - terrific guy!

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Bought this cap for 100 rupees. What a brilliant purchase. It felt like a last ball six :))

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...

5 things I believed to be true when I was a kid; only to realize they are not! Money is finite. If one becomes rich, someone else becomes poor. I was convinced that there was only a limited amount of money in the world. And that the rich make money by taking it from someone else. Wealth is only distributed. Today, I know wealth can be created. By adding value. I shared an example of Maggi in my book, Make Epic Money. A pack of Maggi costs 10/20 rupees. But open it, cook it, add some veggies...
