She was out of my league

Published 13 days ago • 3 min read

I had to ask!

When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league!

I was the super geeky and serious kid.
I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.
I was too uptight.
I would even call myself sad at that point.
Too serious.
And took myself too seriously.

She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.
Happy and going with the flow :))
Forever smiling.
Everyone adored her.
Her happiness made everyone else happy around her.

We met during our college days.
Became friends.

And while I knew I didn't stand a chance, I also knew that If I didn’t ask her out, then the answer would always be no.
So I took the chance.
Of making it to a yes.

It’s been a yes for 24 years now :)

She made me happy.
She makes everyone happy.
She is the happiest person I know.
That's her superpower.

Take your chances.
Even if you think you don't stand a chance.

Book I am reading this week

Still reading Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up by Abigail Shrier. And frankly, I am perpetually shocked to the point of feeling angry at the state of affairs.
I think 10-20 years later, we will look back at this period and wonder how we allowed mental health to be treated so flippantly, especially when it comes to kids!

Must read for every parent.

My new book, MAKE EPIC MONEY, is now a national bestseller, having sold 100,000+ copies in a record 40 days! Yay!

Here is a list of all the books I have shared in this newsletter so far (in alphabetical order).

Results of last week's survey

Do you ever want to own an iPhone?

  • Yes, one day
  • No, I don't feel the need
  • Already have one

Here are the results:

Observations:

  • A nearly stable 50% population doesn't want the iPhone. Fair!
  • The rest go from wanting it one day (when young) to acquiring it as they age. The sweet spot seems to be around 30yrs when people acquire it.

My answer:
I already have one and am very, very happy with it :)

Quotes to share

No speed is worth it if it takes away your life. No investment is worth it if it takes away your sleep.

If you are by yourself and feel lonely, you must be in bad company!

In a world of constant noise, focus is the new IQ.

📸 My week, in pictures

In this section, I share my week in pictures, for those who do not like to read as much as I write :))
I do so not to show how cool a life I live, but instead to show you what are the highlights of every day. As you will see over time, my days are mostly in repeat mode - the same things, but different experiences from them.

Article from 10 years back. Except for the movie (I would pick Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara today), everything else remains the same :))

Our YT channel hit 500M cumulative views last week.
The first million views took 41 months.
The next 49 million views took 12 months.
The next 50 million views took 3 months.
Today, we add 100Mn views every 3 months.

Compounding!

Vidur made breakfast this Sunday. Pancakes with mango slices. Yummmm!

Interesting fact about India's Rich List :)))

My transformation in a year - dropping 10kgs and building muscle mass. The video of the journey is releasing on the 20th of April.

I genuinely love how I look today!

Must read for all parents. Pick it up!

That's it for the week in pictures. Have a lovely weekend and week ahead, all of you lovelies :)))

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...

5 things I believed to be true when I was a kid; only to realize they are not! Money is finite. If one becomes rich, someone else becomes poor. I was convinced that there was only a limited amount of money in the world. And that the rich make money by taking it from someone else. Wealth is only distributed. Today, I know wealth can be created. By adding value. I shared an example of Maggi in my book, Make Epic Money. A pack of Maggi costs 10/20 rupees. But open it, cook it, add some veggies...
