THIS is the smallest price to pay for progress

Published 18 days ago • 3 min read

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it?

Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning.
I lost.

While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things:

1/ I didn't play it safe.
I played aggressively and took my chances.
It's another thing that most chances did not work out :))
But I tried!

2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it.
The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work.

You see, a lot of us are scared of hard work.
It will be too intense, too painful, too long.
But I feel it's scarier to be in a spot where you do not even know what to do.
Where you don't know what to fix, what to improve upon, and how to move ahead.

If hard work is the only thing coming in your way to become who you wish to become, it's the smallest price to pay to cover that distance.
If it's just hard work, then why wouldn't you do it?

Don't fear hard work.
Fear not knowing what to work upon.

Book I am reading this week

Finished reading Mine Your Language: Influence, Engage, Predict.
Pick it up if you manage a brand or are building a personal brand. Very valuable.

Started reading Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up by Abigail Shrier. It is an incredibly hard-hitting book about the rising mental health issues seen in kids, and Abigail argues that the problem isn't the kids and not even so much social media – it's the mental health experts. She reveals that most of the therapeutic approaches have serious side effects and few proven benefits.
It is hard-hitting because this is not what we wish to believe or think to be true.
I am giving the book a fair read and frankly, I have found little evidence to strongly refute its claims so far. Let's see how it goes.

My new book, MAKE EPIC MONEY, is now a national bestseller, having sold 100,000+ copies in a record 40 days! Yay!

Here is a list of all the books I have shared in this newsletter so far (in alphabetical order).

Results of last week's survey

Are you following the IPL this year?

  • I watch almost all matches
  • I watch highlights
  • I read about it
  • What is IPL?
  • HATE the IPL!

Here are the results:

Observations:

  • Super interesting. It's mostly the younger audience that is following it actively.
  • Nearly 50% of those above 40 years hate it or don't want anything to do with the IPL, haha.

My answer:
I don't follow the IPL at all. Have no clue what's happening.

📸 My week, in pictures

In this section, I share my week in pictures, for those who do not like to read as much as I write :))
I do so not to show how cool a life I live, but instead to show you what are the highlights of every day. As you will see over time, my days are mostly in repeat mode - the same things, but different experiences from them.

Watercolour painting from last week. Which one do you like more? :))

Was in Mumbai last week for 3 days and did a series of super interesting podcasts - first one with Ranveer :))

Then with Raj Shamani.

Then with Kenny Sebastian.

And finally, with (OMG) Cyrus Broacha! He was my childhood favourite - I remember coming home from school and watching Love Guru on MTV with him and Malaika Arora :)))
Insanely funny guy.

Was at Lovely Professional University yesterday - this is the Phagwara Railway Station - how serene :))

Most of the family was at the gym this morning, haha :))

That's it for the week in pictures. Have a lovely weekend and week ahead, all of you lovelies :)))

Question of the week

Do you ever want to own an iPhone?

  • Yes, one day
  • No, I don't feel the need
  • Already have one

(and see the results of others, too)

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

5 things I believed to be true when I was a kid; only to realize they are not! Money is finite. If one becomes rich, someone else becomes poor. I was convinced that there was only a limited amount of money in the world. And that the rich make money by taking it from someone else. Wealth is only distributed. Today, I know wealth can be created. By adding value. I shared an example of Maggi in my book, Make Epic Money. A pack of Maggi costs 10/20 rupees. But open it, cook it, add some veggies...
