THE PAIN GOES AWAY

Pain comes in various shapes and sizes.
The physical pain of falling down or going to the gym.
The emotional pain of a relationship breakup or failing in a job.

This pain is something we witness, we experience, we identify.
And often, when we think of pain, this is the pain we are referring to.

The pain that we experience that very instant, when something bad happens to us.

However, the truth about this pain is that it eventually fades away.
You are running, you are lifting, you are cycling.
And it feels like the pain will kill you.

But it doesn't.
It goes away.
The pain goes away.

In a second, a minute, an hour, in a day, in weeks or months.
It goes away.

BUT, there is one pain that always stays!
The pain that is psychological.
The pain of not trying.
The pain of not listening to yourself.
The pain of regret.
The pain of not giving it your all.
The pain of "what if I had..."

That pain, stays!
That pain, always hurts.
That pain, always pinches.
That is the pain that we rarely talk about, but we always live with!

Right at that moment when I feel emotional or physical pain - in that second when I want to give up and not bear it anymore, I ask myself,
"If I give up right now, how will I feel about that a day from now? A week from now? A month from now? A year/decade from now?"

And if I sense the pain that I am going to live with, suddenly I get the strength to withstand the pain I feel in the moment.

Ignoring the pain you feel right now, will help you not experience pain later on.

MISTAKES I MADE IN MY 20s

In my latest podcast episode, I shared the list of mistakes I made in my 20s, which in so many meaningful ways shaped me up!

Check out the episode on Spotify, Apple Podcast, JioSaavn or Google Podcast.

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

This week was pretty intense and I did not start a new book. I am still reading Predictably Irrational - which is a re-read and it is amazing how I am learning new things since the last time I read it 2 years back.

In case you haven't checked, I shared the list of books I think everyone should read in their 20s (or for that matter, any age!)
Check out the list on Twitter or LinkedIn.

QUOTES TO SHARE

The courage to share what you know isn’t about what you know. It is about how you feel about yourself.

“Now you know how it feels” is almost always the worst way to show people where they went wrong.

Money will become even more important in your head, if you hate your job!

Do not confuse calm people as those lacking fire!

Made it to top college. Or didn't.
Got a job. Or not.
Got married. Or not.
To the world, our life is just multiple events of success and failure.
To us, our life is what happens between those events.

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked: Where is most of your money parked?

  1. Don't have any surplus money
  2. In the bank
  3. In fixed deposits or recurring deposits
  4. In national savings schemes (PPF, NPS, etc.)
  5. In equities (directly or through mutual funds, etc.)
  6. In Real estate
  7. In Gold
  8. In Crypto

3,557 people replied and here are the responses:
42% in equities (THANK GOD!)
21% don't have surplus money (understandable)
18% in the bank (nahiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
8% in FDs (BIGGGGERRRRR nahhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii)
3% in national savings schemes (which is still better)
4% in Real estate (fair!)
1% in Gold
and 3% in Crypto (samajhdaar audience!)

The question wasn't about where all your money is invested. It was where is MOST of your money right now.
If the answer is Crypto, I am worried for you.
If the answer is in the bank/FD, I have given up on you! :)
It should be either in equities or based on your risk profile, in national savings schemes.

Mine is in equities. Almost 90%!

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...
