I STARTED THIS NEWSLETTER ON 11TH JULY 2020

I have always loved writing. To me, writing is the way I slow down my thoughts.
Through writing, I give structure to my thoughts, pace my delivery, re-read how I am thinking and improvise.
Things I cannot do when I am speaking.

Not too many people know, I have been blogging for 15+ years now.
I started out while at ISB, blogging about my experiences as an MBA student.
Those early posts today read so childish, immature and incoherent.
And they were. I was 25 back then.
But I am glad at that age I got myself into the habit of writing.
Almost daily.

What you see today, if you like it, is 15+ years of compounding.

Last year, as I was building video content, I began to miss the writing part.
And thus, in July last year, I began this newsletter.
Today we are 75,000+ people strong and growing.
Every week, hundreds of you write back to me, and I make it a point to read all of them.
And I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it feels.
Thank you.

A lot of you have often asked me about what is the process of writing this newsletter.
Do I research them? Does someone else write them for me? Do I write them in one go? Or over days?

I write every newsletter on Wednesday or Thursday.
It happens in one go.
I think for 5 minutes on what I want to talk about.
And then I just start writing.
In 30 minutes, I have my draft.
I quickly check for any errors. But I do not read it again.
I do not want to.
I want this newsletter to go out with the honesty with which I wrote it in the first place.

My wonderful team of Nishtha and Vasundhra, then check the newsletter for any errors or visible grammatical mistakes. And then, the wonderful Gitanjali schedules the newsletter for Friday.
We use ConvertKit.com to deliver the newsletter.

That's the process.
Simple :)

GOAL OF MY LIFE

In this week's podcast, I spoke about something that has stayed with me for several years.
It is a scene from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and is the goal of my life (sorry, whattt????)

I know. I know!
Give it a listen.
Spotify, Apple Podcast, Audible, JioSaavn, Gaana.

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

This week I am reading a fascinating book:
#Tatastories: 40 Timeless Tales to Inspire You

Harish Bhat, the brand custodian of Tata Sons, gifted me this book and it is truly such a timeless piece. I have always been in awe of the Tata Group and their history and through this book, Harish shares 40 stories that you may have heard of (most likely not) that establishes the culture on which Tata was built.

For instance, did you know that Tata SUMO is actually a tribute to SUmant MOolgaokar (thus, SUMO), the former MD of Tata Motors?
What a stunning acknowledgement :)

Pick the book if you love stories, respect The Tata Group and feel inspired by history!

RESPONSE TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked all of you:

What do you think matters more?
The college where you study, or the course that you study?

And the winner is...

COLLEGE :))
57% of you think college matters more than course.

But here is the interesting bit:
I also asked you your age.
And how the response differs with age, is fascinating!

WOW! As we grow old, we seem to realize that college matters more than the course. How cool is that :))
PS: I think the college matters more - because it determines the kind of people you get to hang out with and how their ideas and ambitions shape up your reality.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION

What do you think is life's purpose?

  1. To earn money
  2. To be happy
  3. To be a good person
  4. To have meaningful relationships
  5. Life has no purpose

Fill in your answer here (it is anonymous)

Of course, you can always send me an email. I may not be able to reply, but I do read all my emails.

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...
