WHAT SHAPES YOU UP?

You may have heard of this fascinating phrase -
"You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with."

What this quote basically suggests is that our ideas, our thoughts, our perspectives and even our biases are shaped up through the people we spend the most time with. Because it is their ideas, thoughts, perspectives and biases that we consume the most.

And I would 100% agree with that, except that there is a much needed twist to this.

We are not spending a lot of time with people anymore.
Most of us aren't.
Yes, we have friends and colleagues and family.
But the truth is - we aren't spending as much time with them, as we are with our devices.

And through our devices, we are consuming content.
Be it videos, music, comedy, fiction or a combination thereof.

Suddenly, we are an outcome of this content.
Without even realizing it so.

Think about it?
How much of your beliefs are now being driven by the people you are following online?
How much of your thoughts are driven by theirs?
Your perspectives?
Your biases?

While we think that we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with, the reality is different.

We are the average of the 5 ideologies we spend the most time with.

Choose them wisely.

IS MULTITASKING REALLY BAD?

In this week's episode of my podcast "Woice with warikoo", I share my thoughts on multi-tasking. Specifically, why it is not as bad as people make it out to be and how I have been able to handle it and yet not lose my productivity.
Give it a listen on Spotify, Apple Podcast, JioSaavn, Gaana.

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

This week I am reading The Education of a Value Investor: My Transformative Quest for Wealth, Wisdom, and Enlightenment - one of the most popular books when it comes to investing. Centers itself on Value Investing, which is the trademark for Warren Buffet.

Another great book to read, if you are starting or are early in your investing journey, is The Joys Of Compounding: The Passionate Pursuit of Lifelong Learning

There is so much to learn from books!

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked you -

Would you much rather spend more money on your bed mattress or your work/study chair? And why?

  1. Bed mattress
  2. Chair
  3. Neither are important to me

3,171 people responded to the survey. And the results are........

47% responded Chair
46% responded Bed mattress
WOW! How cool is that? Almost a tie.

I have no idea what the 7% value in their life, if not a good night sleep or a work chair that is important. I am hoping they have better things in life going on for them :)

Personally for me, a bed mattress is a no brainer. We spend 30% of our life sleeping and it sets us up for the rest of the day. I can change my chair and still be okay. I can move around and still be able to work. But I cannot get good sleep if the bed I am sleeping on is not good for me!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION

This is a question I had asked almost a year back and is one of my favorite questions to ask -

What do you think matter more?
The college where you study, or the course that you study?

Of course, you can always write to me - I love getting your emails.

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...
